Engage the Community
Goal 4: Engage the Community
An important function of a local education foundation like PEP is to increase the community’s awareness of the great work our educators are doing every day in their classrooms. We also want to get the word out on issues facing public education and how we can all work together to support our schools. Each month PEP generates an article called PEP TALK to help raise awareness in these two areas. Watch for them in the Aiken Standard and catch up with past articles here.

Scholarship Programs
Margaret Cato Endowment
A teacher at Aiken High for over 30 years, Ms. Cato left virtually her entire estate to help the students of the school across the street from her home – Ridge Spring/Monetta High.
Warren Whitson "Yes I Can" Scholarship
Mr. Warren B. Whitson served a distinguished 37-year career as an educator, including being Principal at Silver Bluff and Midland Valley High Schools. Known for his generous nature and ability to encourage even the most troubled students; his positive attitude toward supporting students was captured in his personal motto – and on his license plate – “Yes I Can.” Each year there are two Whitson scholarships alternating between Silver Bluff and Midland Valley High Schools.
Randy Brinkley Athletic Scholarship
For students at Silver Bluff High School.
Josue and Alisha Garcia Entrepreneur Scholarship
Alisha and Josue Garcia of North Augusta have both had successful careers and want to give back to the community. One way they do so is by providing scholarships to recognize students who demonstrate an entrepreneurial spirit through inquisitiveness, drive, civic contribution, and business acumen.
