What PEP looks for in a Board member…
If you are considering applying for membership on the PEP Board, here’s what you need to know.
Nominations are considered in the Fall. Applications can be made online at any time. While not required, we encourage potential Board members to serve earlier in the year on our PEP Squad, volunteering on a committee or project before applying.
Members serve 3-year terms aligned to our fiscal year: January 1 to December 31.
The Board meets approximately 10 times per year on the 4th Wednesday of each month (except November – 3rd Wednesday). Meetings are held in the late afternoon at the Aiken Chamber of Commerce. Board members are expected to miss no more than 3 meetings per year to continue their service.
PEP has no paid staff. All our work is done by our Board and the PEP Squad. This is not an advisory board, but a working board of approximately 20 members. Committees meet as needed to accomplish their work.
Board Member time commitment is about 10 hours per month, including Board and Committee meetings.
Other requirements:
- sign a conflict-of-interest policy each year
- attend a new member orientation before the January meeting
- serve on at least one committee of the Board
- participate as a donor annually at a level of your choice
- if going into a school to volunteer, be aware that the district will conduct a check of the sexual predator index
Before applying, be sure to become familiar with our projects on the What We Do pages of this website.
